Karelsky Okatish – Station Kombinatskaya | Russia
With the station Kombinatskaya located in the Murmansk region in North West Russia, the operator faced major challenges given the environmental conditions: These demanded outdoor equipment with minimum maintenance that can operate with highest levels of reliability and precision, as it would be exposed to the extreme cold weather, including snow. Reliable and continuous operation was achieved by replacing the track circuits with a Frauscher Axle Counter Solution.
As modern axle counters are replacing an increasing number of track circuit installations worldwide, this project is a good example to indicate their advantages for customers who demand a robust and reliable solution with minimal maintenance requirements.
After a successful trial with the Frauscher Advanced Counter FAdCi in combination with the Frauscher Safe Ethernet FSE protocol and the Wheel Sensor RSR180, the customer decided to replace the track circuits in their railway network.
The FAdCi is designed for industrial lines as well as for regional and metro lines and represents a cost-effective SIL 3 safety solution that is limited to train speeds of 80 km/h. For this project, a central architecture was established with all indoor components being installed in one location.
With regards to the extreme weather conditions on site, existing detection points were replaced with the Wheel Sensor RSR180, a time-proven solution with minimal maintenance. As a result, the Frauscher Axle Counter Solution requires a single maintenance visit every two years concerning areas where train movement is not expected within this period, as regular train passing confirms the correct operation.
Reliability and robustness
The track side equipment of the FAdC ensures reliable and continuous operation even under exposure of extreme cold weather and snow.
Low maintenance
Maintenance-intensive components are rated as major cost drivers, as is high power consumption. The FAdC in combination with the FSE protocol minimises lifecycle costs through preventive maintenance to support the customers challenges.
Easy and cost-effective integration
Universally applicable hardware interfaces and high-performance software interfaces enable the fast integration of our axle counters in various applications. The customer decided to use the FAdCi in combination with the FSE protocol as cost-effective SIL 3 safety solution.
